Sullivan County in Northeastern Pennsylvania is known as the "Gem of the Endless Mountains." Sullivan County is home to two state parks and unique small villages. Dushore, the largest borough in the county, was first settled by John Mosier in 1825. It is known as the commercial center of the county and sits at the junctions of three major routes - US 220, PA 87 and PA 487. The settlement was first called Moshier Hollow and later Jackson Hollow. Local businessman, Dr. Josiah Jackson named it Dushore, a corrupted form of Aristide Aubert Dupetit-Thouars, a French Navy Captain and exile from the French Revolution. On the site of Dushore, "the Admiral" endeavored to build a new home. Dushore was incorporated from Cherry Township in 1859 by
the Sullivan County Court.
